From my morning devotion:
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
also:
Genesis 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
We get this idea in our head that if we can just do enough, we can get God to like us. Maybe if we give enough money, spend enough time, say just the right prayer or speak in tongues, maybe God will be pleased and see fit to let us into heaven.
Micah 4:2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
The truth is God wants to know you. He wants to be intimate. Talk with Him everyday. Walk in his ways. Read your Bible. Witness whenever you can. Do whatever he tells you.
Lord, come know me. Talk to me, let me know of your ways. Transform my life. In Jesus name, Amen.
