Morning Meditations: Marriage Advice

From my morning devotion:

Proverbs 5:18-19 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. 19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

also:

Psalms 127:4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

Even within the church we have fallen prey to the idea that we need to plan our our lives in the same way the world does. School, ministries and entertainment have become the main focus of our lives. Only when we have sucked the most joy out of life that we can, only then should we be concerned about getting married. While these thing are vitally important and Biblically commanded, it's also equally important to keep our eyes open, especially in our youth, for our mate!

Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

Let that one sink in for a second. We pray for favor all the time. We give of our time and our money to the church in hopes that we'll receive God's favor. Yet we live our lives in this area as if we'd never read the Bible. Find a girl and date her for 3 or 4 or 6 years, with no sign of marriage in sight? Nope, find a wife, marry her & get the favor of the Lord. How many of us can say that we live like we believe that?

Lord, forgive us for believing worldly influences before we believe you. Help us to love and live our youth in a way that pleases you and encourage others to do the same. In Jesus name, Amen.
