Morning Meditations: 1 Corinthians 1:17 - Christ is of No Effect

1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

We must be careful in our Christian life. The word of God can be made ineffective through our own actions. When God gives you insight, do whatever he says.

Mark 7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Our traditions, especially our religious traditions can make the word of God of no effect. We must be careful that everything we do points people toward the perfection of Christ.

Romans 4:14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

We must be careful in our witness. It is important that lost people get no confidence to continue being lost. Salvation has come for all people. Their religious tradition won't get them to Heaven.

Heavenly Father, help us to be careful in all aspects of our lives. Make us effectual witnesses for you. In Jesus name, amen.

Funny!

Morning Meditations: 1 Corinthians 1:14-17 - What is an Evangilist?

1 Corinthians 1:14-17 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

Paul worked as an evangelist and a missionary. It was his work in Christ to preach the word and establish churches. The work of baptism is the job of the bishop (pastor) as it is the ordinance of the local New Testament church. Therefore Paul was not allowed to baptize everyone because he was not the leader of that particular church.

2 Timothy 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

How does an evangelist make proof of his ministry? Paul dealt with this in an earlier passage:

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

An evangelist is not allowed to water down God's message. He is to prepare himself to preach the whole council of God.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

If you feel that you have been called to be an evangelist then study. Write your own commentary. Memorize scripture. Post a blog. Preach to whoever will listen. Lead people to the Christ you can read about in the Bible.

2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

If you find that you can't practice what God tells you to do, leave. Come out from among them, find a church that preaches and wins souls! Follow the word of God.

Heavenly Father, help us to make our calling more sure. We want to be successful in your endeavors. In Jesus name, amen.

Morning Meditations: 1 Corinthians 1:12,13 - What is Baptism

1 Corinthians 1:12,13 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

What is baptism? What is it not? How is it supposed to be administered? When do you do it? Let's set aside the traditions of men for a second and look at what the Bible has to say.

Romans 6:3-5 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Baptism is identifying ourselves with Jesus. It is a celebration of His death burial and resurrection.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Baptism is not a method of salvation. All Christians should be baptized but it is not required. It is only through faith that we are saved.

Acts 8:36-37 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

These verses give us the method of baptism. It must be administered in water, taken with the verse from Romans above, it can plainly be seen that it must be by complete immersion (See above: planted & buried)

Matthew 3:7-9 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

Unbelievers cannot be baptized. A real New Testament church has the right to refuse baptism to anyone who is not saved.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Baptism should be done in the name of the Father, Son & Holy Ghost. This is the only method ever given by Jesus.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

I only mention this because Oneness Pentecostals have twisted this verse. We already covered the Importance of the Name in a previous post. If you don't want to go back and read, I will tell you that name means authority and that the Son of God was called Yeshua.

John 3:4-7 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Many people misunderstand John 3:5, saying that this proves the need for water baptism. Oneness Pentecostals will quote verse 5 completely out of context. When taken in it's proper context you can see that being born of water means natural birth and that being born of Spirit means a spiritual rebirth.

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

Everyone will be baptized one day, in this life or the next. Christians are baptized with the Holy Ghost, and arise to walk in newness of life, and will one day go to heaven. Unbelievers walk in their own way and will one day be baptized in the lake of fire.

Jeremiah 6:15,16 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD. 16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

It is your choice where you will spend your eternity. You can live any way you want, and fall with the fallen one. Or you can pickup your Bible everyday, find the old paths, and walk therein. Choose eternal life!

Heavenly Father, we want to please you. We want to find the old paths. Speak to us through the scriptures. Help us to find the old paths and restore the old landmarks. In Jesus name, amen.

Morning Meditations: 1 Corinthians 1:12,13 - What Are You Called?

1 Corinthians 1:12,13 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

Ever try to witness to someone? I'm sure you've gotten this kind of response. "I'm Pentecostal" or "I'm Methodist" or "I'm Baptist". This is exactly what Paul is talking about here. But I tell you, it should not be so!

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

The only moniker given by the Bible for followers of Christ is Christian.

1 Peter 4:16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

We should suffer as Christians, don't be ashamed! Live the life!

Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

What are we trying to persuade people to become? Don't we want them to join the body of Christ? Teach them to identify with Him!

Matthew 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

Baptist is the only denominational name mentioned in the King James Version. If you believe that the KJV is true then how can you call yourself by that name? John was THE Baptist not A Baptist.

Heavenly Father, I will never be ashamed to identify with Your Son's name. I will live and teach and walk in the Christian way. In Jesus name, amen.

Morning Meditations: 1 Corinthians 1:10,11 - What Are You Contending For?

1 Corinthians 1:10,11 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

We should all be of the same mind. When we start fighting amongst ourselves we present a distorted image of salvation.

Proverbs 18:19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

There are always consequences to fighting. If we offend our brother in Christ we break fellowship. Only when we are in full fellowship with each other can we do our part in our local church.

Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

This is the only thing we are supposed to contend for. We must never turn from what it says in the Bible. No matter how hard it is or what is asked of us.

Heavenly Father, strengthen us for the days ahead. We want to do your will and have fellowship with you and each other. In Jesus name, amen.

Morning Meditations: 1 Corinthians 1:10 - Ministers of Encouragement

Verse 10:

1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

There it is again, we should all have the same mind. We should be all speaking the same things. But just what is it we're supposed to speak?

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

We are to speak to each other teaching an admonishing words. Singing of the mighty works of God.

1 Timothy 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

We should be reminding each other. Nourish someone's faith. This is a good ministry.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Finally we are warned not to let evil, corrupt speech come from us. We are to be ministers of encouragement.

Heavenly Father, help us to build up our brothers and sisters. Keep us mindful of the thing we say. In Jesus name, amen.
