From my morning devotion:
Genesis 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Genesis 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Two different passage with the same word, desire, I've heard Genesis 3 preached about women lusting after their husbands. Problem is that's how God made us and he called it good. What we're talking about here is sin. Sin always distorts our thinking. People always desire power, but I think if we can get the mind of God we'll get a far different picture.
Luke 13:34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
What a beautiful picture: "how often would I have" His perfect, sinless desire is to be our comforter, provider and protector.
Lord, we humble ourselves in your presence. We realize we can do nothing of ourselves. Take us under your wings and lead us. In Jesus name, Amen.
