Morning Meditations: Humility

From my morning devotion:

Proverbs 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

also:

Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

In Jesus' day, men would "yoke" themselves to a teaching of a particular teacher. The teachings of Jesus always began with a spirit of humility.

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Those who begin with a spirit of meekness and humility can be lead and taught of the spirit. Those who are lead of the spirit don't need the law to tell them what to do anymore, that's the spirit's job.

Give Jesus your heart, turn from your sin, read your Bible, do whatever it says. Be lead of the spirit. Eliminate anger and pride. Seek after meekness and humility. Love people the way Jesus did. This what it means to become born again. It's not about some prayer you prayed in a magic part of the room. It's not about some mystical experience where you said or did something you never have before. It's about real life changing transformation.

God wants to transform you into the image of His Son. It starts with humility.

Lord, I come to you humbly today. I give you not only my heart but my hands, feet and all the rest of my life. Lead me and transform me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
