Morning Meditations: Child Rearing

From my morning devotion:

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

also:

Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

I've done a Hebrew word study and what the text is suggesting is that you need to spank your kids. Yeah that's right, God says time out won't do it.

You see, we've bought into this lie that we're so far above physical forms of correction that all we've got to do is put them somewhere to think about it. Maybe take away their TV privileges.

Psalms 127:1,4 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

I'm not trying to raise good kids. I'm trying to raise godly children that will raise godly children. They will leave my house and go out into a world that will call them peculiar, even hate them. It's my job to prepare them.

Lord, help us to seek your wisdom as we instruct and disciple our children. Give us grace that we might discipline them without anger. In Jesus name, Amen.
