Matthew 20:25-28 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
As Christians, we must be on guard at all times. Jesus spoke often about leadership. Here is a short list of the most common ways to determine if you have a bad pastor:
- Exhalts himself above everyone - Matthe 23:11,12
- Irreverence in prayer - Luke 18:10-14
- Makes demands on others that they will not do themselves - Matthew 23:13
- Doesn't follow the spirit of the law - Matthew 23:23
- Concerned with outward holiness but not inward holiness - Matthew 23:25
- Wants to sit in the seats of honor - Luke 11:43
Matthew 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Beware, you could easily find yourself in this position. Even if it seems that you pastor started out good, there are those that will turn off very bad indeed.
Read your Bible, pray, ask God for wisdom and ask him for guidance. Then do what he says!
Lord, lift the blinders off our eyes. Help us to see the truth in our leaders. Help us to find pastors who have a heart after you. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
