Morning Meditations: Birth Control

From my morning devotion:

Genesis 30:1,2 And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die. 2 And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

also:

Genesis 38:7-10 And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. 8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. 9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. 10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

There was a day when children were truly viewed as a blessing. In those days people left control of their families up to God. It was His decision when we would be blessed with children. Some women had many many blessings, while some begged and pleaded with God just to get one.

Exodus 23:25,26 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. 26 There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.

Barrenness was always viewed as a curse. God said as long as we would do what we are told, he would not make us barren. These days people make themselves barren, bringing the curse upon themselves.

Imagine how our churches would grow! Imagine how many more missionaries & preachers we would have if we just do what God said. What a difference we would make in our world!

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Now lets have a math lesson. 1+1=2, this is what we call addition. When we limit ourselves to only two children, that's all we're doing.

Lord, help us to see children as you see them. Bless us, give us your grace, make us fruitful. In Jesus name, Amen.
